Perfect for cold outdoor adventures: We add sustainably produced lavalan® wool lining to select pants and jackets for maximum thermal insulation. This material uses wool from sheep living in the Swabian Alps to ensure the highest standards of animal welfare. The functional properties of the wool are further enhanced by natural corn fibres. This helps lavalan® padded pants like NIL WOOL and LULAKA WOOL to keep you nice and warm, while remaining as breathable and flexible as you need them to be.

lavalan® – a sustainably produced alternative to polyester padding

As with the other lavalan® qualities, the insulation made from Swabian Alb wool also reaches its full potential through thermal processing. Corn fibres (polylactides) are used to improve the durability and breathability of the wool, turning it into a highly functional all-in-one material. The wool can absorb up to 36% of its own weight in water vapour and is at the same time highly water-repellent, which makes lavalan® exceptionally breathable and quick-drying. This allows comfortable Maier Sports jackets with lavalan® padding to keep you warm while preventing overheating. The same applies to trousers that use the natural insulation material.

The route of the sheep

The sheep spend their summers on a former military training area near the city of Münsingen in the Swabian Alps. In late summer, the herd then makes the journey to their winter pasture in the Rhine river valley near Offenburg, travelling through Rottweil and the Kinzig valley. Once the cold winter months are over, they move on once again, this time to the city of Loßburg. This is where the sheep are shorn before repeating the same route again. After the sheering, the wool can be processed.
