Snow-sure from September to May

Due to its high Alpine altitude, Pitztal - Tirol's Rooftop is one of the few really snow-reliable holiday destinations in the entire Alpine region. It nestles between the valleys of Ötztal and Kaunertal, offering high Alpine challenges to winter sports enthusiasts and lovers of pure romance. Pitztal Glacier, the highest ski resort in the whole of Austria, stretches up to 3440 meters and is open from September through May.

Professionals appreciate that they can do their training units here in early September and late May. Beginners can lean back easily as the first Ski Touring Park in Tirol is located in the secured ski area, there is no avalanche hazard and they can leave the tour quickly through short deep snow passages leading to groomed slopes at any time. Since 2017, ski mountaineering fans can take full advantage of perfect ski touring conditions at Pitztal Glacier on routes marked in red, blue and black. Plus top infrastructure on-site. Simply rent your equipment at the top of the glacier, maybe also take part in a taster course (every Tuesday)? And definitely buy the inexpensive ski touring pass. This season's two great ski tour events: Rifflsee Vertical 2300 on 20 December and Glacier Vertical 3440 on 01 May.

Perfect conditions - cross-country skiing on the glacier

Tirol's highest Nordic skiing track covered with natural snow can be found at about 2700 meters above sea level at Pitztal Glacier. If there is still scarce snow at lower altitudes in the valley, cross-country skiers will already find ideal conditions here at present - in order to enjoy sports in a wintry landscape and to prepare excellently for the coming winter season. The mountain lifts of Pitztal Glacier are in operation for skiers and winter sport fans since mid-September.

They bear names such as Havanna, Monsterline, Shark or Play with Fire - and describe coordinates just like in paradise: If the mighty waterfalls of Pitztal valley are bizarrely frozen sculptures, ice climbers are truly spoilt for choice. Thanks to a total of 45 official ice climbing areas of varied difficulty degrees, Pitztal has already become one of the absolute climbing hot spots of the scene.

Austria's highest coffeehouse with own pastry shop

With its freely suspended sun terrace, Café 3.440 at an altitude of 3440 m offers really fascinating vistas. Austria's highest coffeehouse is Tirol's new highlight in the truest sense of the word. A team of expert pastry cooks prepares a range of traditional Austrian delicacies for hungry hikers, ambitious skiers and people who just want to enjoy the magnificent view of more than 50 summits higher than three thousand meters.

Wedding ceremony at Pitztal Glacier

Pitztal Glacier is one of the most extraordinary wedding venues in the whole Republic. For already six years, couples have the opportunity to get married in the picture-book setting of Café 3.440 - with the help of an official registrar of St. Leonhard. The highest registry office in Austria offers uninterrupted views of the surrounding mountain world with more than 50 three thousand meter high peaks. A church blessing is also possible in the "Chapel of White Light" (2900 m), which was designed by the Tirolean artist Rudi Wach.
