In the Kitzbüheler Alps

Ophit tights will withstand all challenges on your adventures

Enjoying an adventure in the mountains for a few days and long-distance hikes are both beautiful and exhausting. Not to mention the whims of nature and the rapid changes in weather in the mountains; sunny one minute and raining the next. To ensure your outdoor fun isn’t spoiled by bad weather, it is especially important to wear proper clothing and not to skimp on quality. Below you can read how the Ophit 2.0 W tights from Maier Sports performed in our test.

The perfect outfit for your next hiking trip

It started with a post on Instagram, Maier Sports was looking for testers, so I sent my application and was lucky enough to be chosen. I received a reply that I would test the Ophit 2.0 W tights. I was so excited because I’m an absolute fan of tights. If it was up to me, the comfortable pants should be a staple in every closet. They should be able to be worn all day and any day. That’s why I could hardly wait to try tights from a true pants specialist. In the following days, the tights had to undergo the following endurance test:

  • Hiking in the rain
  • 6 km swift jog (a storm was approaching)
  • Ascent over 1400 meters

A few days later, the postman delivered a package – my outdoor pants had arrived! The first thing I noticed was the material of the Ophit 2.0 W. Compared to other tights, they felt much more robust and resistant. However, the outdoor tights were also very lightweight and soft to the touch. To my surprise, the package also included a matching t-shirt, I wasn’t only excited to test the tights, I now had the perfect outfit for my next hike! I quickly tried the pants on for size.

First impression – No pressure nor slipping thanks to the very comfortable waistband

The tights came as ordered in size 38. They gathered slightly at my ankles, but I’m used to that, I’m 1.65cm, and that’s how my other pants fit too. I especially like the comfortable waistband. It’s pleasantly soft and doesn’t give you that feeling of being constricted, and it also doesn’t fit too loosely either, nothing slips.

Another positive feature is the practical pocket with a thin zipper. Since I’m often without a backpack, it’s nice to store small things like a key or some change in there. They passed the first impression with flying colours, so I was looking even more forward to the coming days in the Kitzbüheler mountains.

Bad weather on day one – Perfect fit despite the rain and wetness

Unfortunately, we had unpleasant weather the first day. The sky was grey, and it rained on and off. At the beginning of the hike, the outdoor tights withstood the rain – the raindrops just pearled off thanks to the environmentally friendly, PFC-free impregnation. But when the rain showers got heavier, the rain penetrated the robust tights. Nevertheless, I didn’t feel like the Ophit was sticking to or rubbing my skin. I was actually quite impressed that it still maintained its perfect fit, despite the wetness.

After exploring the Kelchalm area, the rain came back and a thunderstorm was approaching. That was reason enough to hurry back. We swiftly jogged 6 km back to Aurach, and I have to say the outdoor pants were amazing, the Ophit has a 4-way stretch and is very elastic. I can imagine going trail running in them, even in bad weather.

Once we arrived at the hotel, I rinsed the tights with clear water and hung them to dry, which didn’t take long thanks to the dryprotec technology. I was able to put them through another day of testing, but this time in much nicer weather.

Day two – Optimal freedom of movement without any friction

Two days after our rainy hike, there wasn’t a cloud to be seen, the sun was out and shining. It was the perfect weather to walk the 22 km Gam’s trail which ascends to 1400 meters. I started after a substantial breakfast and was in a good mood. Even in the bright sunshine, the outdoor tights proved to be the perfect companion on hikes, no slipping, rubbing or pulling.

Going downhill, the Ophit offered freedom of movement, and I could perform all activities without any problems and had no restrictions in my stride length. Halfway through the hike we needed a little refreshment, so we stopped for a drink in a cosy little hut. I was a bit sweaty and was worried about cooling off during the break, but to my delight, the tights protected me from the windchill-effect.

My conclusion: whether rain or sun – the Ophit tights will not let you down

My first impression was confirmed. I wore the outdoor tights in both good and bad weather, and both times they more than met my expectations. Even on the day it rained, Ophit really stood out with its strengths and high quality.

Especially on longer distances in the mountains, when you don’t know what kind of weather awaits, you’ll be well prepared with these tights. The Ophit 2.0 W is excellent for adventures lasting several days, as it dries quickly after washing and is ready for the next adventure.
