the Tajo 2 in action

From the Alb to Lake Garda

Whether it’s hiking, demanding trail running or even cycling – Maier Sports, from Köngen in Swabia is a company with a long-standing tradition, and they have exactly what you are looking for. They are considered the absolute pants specialist in the outdoor segment. The name stands for excellent functionality and perfectly fitted pants for any outdoor activity. I was able to test the Tajo 2 outdoor pants and see how they perform under challenging conditions.

Perfect sizing, comfortable fit and pockets with plenty of space

After trying them on, I immediately noticed how well they fit. And this isn’t a coincidence, because Maier Sports offers 61 different pants sizes (36 for men, 25 for women) – so everyone can find their perfect fit. The Tajo 2 is very lightweight, sits comfortably and feels good all around. The legs can even be detached with a zipper at the knee.

I took a closer look and inspected the following:

  • Waistband
  • Material (wearability / elasticity)
  • Pockets / additional features

Starting at the top – the waistband has a sewn-in elastic band and sits incredibly well; they also have a belt that can be adjusted to your preference. There are pockets with small zippers on both sides and on the back as well. There is also a security pocket on the inside of the waistband.

The pants are made of synthetic fibre and are very comfortable to wear. The 4-way stretch material is so stretchable that you can keep your shoes on when you take your pants off or when you convert your pants to shorts. The mSTRETCH pro 4 technology makes these pants incredibly stretchy.

There is an extra pocket on the right thigh– so you’ll have plenty of room for tissues, mobile phone, money, etc. And the legs of the pants can be zipped off above the knee. The legs have a marking sewn inside to help you figure out which is left and right when you want to zip them back on. And there is a small velcro piece that helps secure the pieces together before you zip them closed.

The first test – hiking on the Swabian Alb and in the Danube valley

My first trip was around our hometown in the Swabian Alb. In the morning, I went on a spontaneous hike to the local mountain, the “Jusi” to watch the sunrise. In the evening, I took a little walk around the “Beurener Fels” to watch the sunset.

The next day we planned a hike in the Danube valley. We chose to hike the highly rated Kloster-Felsenweg trail and were amazed by how beautiful the landscape was, especially the incredible rock formations.

The pants won me over on both hikes. Nothing pinched, the waistband was comfortable, and the pants didn’t constrict any of my movements. Afterwards, we spent the entire day in Stuttgart and went to the Museum of Illusions. They passed the test here too, they were suitable for everyday use in an urban environment and also performed well. The Tajo 2 not only offers excellent wearability, but they look great and can be worn in your leisure time without any problems.

Trip to Lake Garda– Hiking and trail running with the Tajo 2

Our next destination was Lake Garda in Cisano. Here we went to the markets in Bardolino and Lazise, but the highlight was the hike to Mount Baldo. We left early in the morning but didn’t take the cable car up as most tourists do. Instead, we drove the car along the Strada Provinciale 8 (direction Ferrara di Monte Baldo) which later becomes the SP3 and then parked the car and walked up to the Monte Baldo.

We enjoyed the most magnificent view at the top of the mountain station before the masses of tourists arrived. When descending, we discovered several small trails that offered beautiful views of Lake Garda. When I wasn’t admiring the landscape, I was trail running, and the Tajo 2 followed my every movement with its 4-way stretch.

During the day we walked from the Cisano promenade to the shores of Bardolino and Lazise, we had a beautiful view of Lake Garda at all times.

The holiday finale – rollercoasters and waterslides

On the way home from our holidays we made a detour to Blautopf in Blaubeuren, it’s a real must-see! From the blue springs to the cave system, there is something for every nature lover to see. We picked a short trail and put the hiking pants to the test again, and once more they convinced us of their top-quality.

Lastly, we went to Tripsdrill – and the Tajo passed its last challenge by surviving several rollercoasters. They got wet on the water slides but thanks to the dryprotec technology they dried extremely fast. We were able to store everything we needed in the pockets, I never felt uncomfortable – even in high temperatures – and nothing smelled unpleasant either. They passed their last test effortlessly.

Conclusion: Tajo 2 are the perfect pants for any day of the week

I tested the Tajo 2 almost every day for two weeks– I went hiking, cycling, trail running or just window shopping in the city and they proved to be real “comfort” pants. Even when they got wet, it wasn’t a problem. Thanks to the dryprotec technology they were dry in no time, they never had an unpleasant smell, and they were even resistant to scratches. On top of that, like all Maier-Sports products, they are impregnated PFC-free, which is also good for the environment.

We will therefore continue to enjoy the pants in the future and will plan to pack the Tajo 2 with us on our next trips.
