A Year on the road with the Notos jacket

Maier Sports endurance test

In 2018, Nick took part in the Maier Sports endurance test campaign. He regularly writes about his tours on his hiking blog UrbanHiker.de. Our Notos jacket accompanied Nick on his trips for a whole year.

Nick alias Urbanhiker.de tests the Notos outdoor jacket

“I decided I would put the PrimaLoft jacket to a thorough test for a whole year. I was thrilled from the word go as the jacket feels very light, looks sporty and elegant and has a slightly tapered cut.”

I love hiking in the snow, being in the Alps and exploring new towns. The first thing I thought was that this jacket was perfect for a city trip when you just take hand luggage on the plane. The look and pack size were just right and so the first trip was in cold Prague over Christmas. We explored the wintry town on foot and covered between 15 and 20 km a day. The Notos jacket kept me warm in the icy weather without any difficulty. Winter jackets often get so hot that you quickly start to sweat. The Maier Sports Notos jacket was warm yet unbelievably breathable, even on the steep uphill path to the Petrin observation tower. I now always pack the jacket in my hand luggage when I take a city trip in the cold season. Last year, in addition to Prague, we also went to Paris and even Barcelona for the 2020 New Year’s Eve celebrations.

The jacket easily withstood city weather, but what about the snow, wind and cold in the mountains? So I packed the jacket when I went on my ski holiday to Sulden in bitterly cold January. I thought that if I was going to do the endurance test, then I had to do it properly. In continuous snow, I strapped on my snowshoes and set off from Sulden (1,660 m) up to Langenstein (2,320 m). I pulled the warm hood over my head to protect myself from the snow and whistling wind. The jacket protected me from the cold and snow here as well and I still found it really easy to move, which is important when you have to climb up several metres. Descending, it wasn’t our snowshoes that we used, but instead our bodies to “slide” down the mountain through the snow. Great fun, that I can tell you. The Notos jacket has an excellent finish and withstood all the tribulations.

“I’m looking forward to many more hikes and challenges with my Maier Sports Notos.”

The next great challenge was planned for the summer – crossing the Alps from Oberstdorf to Merano, from cabin to cabin. Every single gramme counts on a tour like that. Moreover, the weather is unpredictable and it can snow at any time. So putting the Notos jacket on my packing list was a no-brainer. The jacket kept me nice and warm, especially early in the morning. It got hotter after climbing up a few metres and I was able to simply fold up the jacket and stow it in my backpack. The PrimaLoft Notos jacket also passed the Alp-crossing endurance test with flying colours. I’m looking forward to many more hikes and challenges with my Maier Sports Notos.

The Notos jacket

This high-tech technical insulating jacket is extremely light and pleasantly warm. It comes with the innovative PrimaLoft® ThermoPlume insulation, which is very similar to the billowing effect and thermal output of natural down. The grown-on hood can be adjusted for an individual fit and the inner cuffs on the sleeves ensure that no heat escapes. The sophisticated stitching gives it a cool look.
