Vietnam is becoming an increasingly important export country for apparel and is currently among the world’s five largest clothing exporters. As one of Vietnam’s largest industrial sectors, the textile and apparel industry makes a significant contribution to the country’s economic growth. The sector directly employs around 2.7 million people and indirectly supports millions more.
The production site in Vietnam was added to Maier Sports GmbH’s supplier base in the 2023/24 financial year. However, we are not in direct contact with a supplier there; instead, one of our Chinese joint ventures commissions a Vietnamese subcontractor.
Risk‑based decision
In advance, a country‑level risk analysis was conducted by the CSR department. The results of this analysis confirmed that Vietnam could be considered as a production country. As a result, starting with the Spring/Summer 2025 collection, products with Vietnam as the country of origin will be placed on the market.

Mutual familiarisation
We are currently in the process of learning more about the country and the production facility, identifying potential risks, and taking preventive action. Our Chinese contact persons have already been on site. On the one hand, they gathered information for us and shared it accordingly. On the other hand, they also discussed our values and the eight labour standards with the Vietnamese factory. The so‑called Worker Information Sheet briefly explains all eight labour standards in written and graphical form. This Worker Information Sheet is now visibly displayed in the Vietnamese factory for all workers to see.
