The textile and apparel industry in India is the country’s third-largest employer, providing jobs for approximately 45 million people. As the world’s second-largest exporter of garments and cotton, the sector plays a significant role in India’s economic development. 

Maier Sports GmbH has been working with a BSCI-audited supplier in India since 2016. In response to the widespread issue of workplace harassment in India, the company implemented the Fair Wear Foundation’s Workplace Education Programme (Basic Training) in March 2021 with the aim of promoting a respectful working environment for all employees. In addition, a Fair Wear Foundation audit was conducted in 2022, and BSCI audits took place in both 2024 and 2026. 

The factory in India has established several committees, including an Internal Committee in accordance with the law on the prevention of sexual harassment of women at the workplace, a workers’ committee, and a health and safety committee. Employees are encouraged to raise concerns with the factory manager or owner. The factory also provides training on the handling of chemicals.

Grievance Mechanisms

At the factory in India, grievances and concerns can be communicated directly to the respective department managers or reported anonymously via a locked suggestion box. In addition, a complaints committee has been established, which meets on a quarterly basis and consists of three management representatives and three employee representatives. The complaints procedure is publicly accessible and displayed on the notice board for all employees.
